Sam set forth with a very clear mission for his residency. He shot odd craigslist adds that he had sourced over a period of time and collaborated with local artists and creatives based in Provincetown. Sam focuses on inclusion and diversity in his work and it made him the perfect candidate for the Stowaway Society. During his stay he invited a young trans Brooklyn based artist to stay at the Stowaway and collaborate on several shoots with him. Her name is Chiquitita and her experience with us is one that we felt deemed its own section. We were all very moved watching the collaboration between these two artists.
“Today I head back to New York after a month-long artist residency at The Stowaway Guest House in Provincetown. I truly can’t express the amount of gratitude I have for Steve Azar and The Stowaway for holding a space of love, support, trust, and enthusiasm for me to push my creative bounds. The work they are doing to provide opportunities for new generations of queer creatives from all walks of life to experience and contribute to the culture here is beautiful and necessary.
I have always loved Provincetown, but having the opportunity to weave myself into the fabric of this unbelievable community has been a massive spiritual and creative reset that I needed more than I knew. Huge shoutout to all my new friends and collaborators who each volunteered their time to help me actualize this project. I can’t thank you all enough. Each one of you helped to push and elevate my vision beyond what I could have imagined by bringing something unique and unexpected to the table. The culmination of this residency with a new gallery in town representing me and my work is more than I could have hoped for. After this experience, Provincetown will forever be another home to me, and I hope to be able to give back even a fraction of what it has given to me.”

Sam’s photography is currently on display for sale in the Treadwell Gallery. He will return Summer 2021 to have a full exhibition at the Treadwell Gallery. Sam has also been hired by Provincetown to photograph the community.
