Our Team
Steven Azar, Founder & Board Chair
Educated as a chemical engineer, Steven’s career has been focused in real estate matters since 2004. Steven has been an active, licensed real estate agent since 2006. His other positions include: engineer for redevelopment projects while with CH2M Hill in Sydney and San Francisco, an Economic Development Senior Planner in Greater Boston, a corporate Development Associate for Wood Partners (developed over 1,000 multi-family units), and then Director of Development for Sebastian Mariscal Studios where he focused on developing complex, energy positive, inclusionary and intergenerational housing projects with elevated design components. In these capacities, Steven served as the owners’ representative and as the lead negotiator on many inner-urban, large-scale redevelopment deals.
In 2019, Azar transitioned to Provincetown year-round when he acquired what he has now rebranded as the Stowaway Guesthouse, while assisting to setup the Provincetown Brewing Company at its inception. He sits on the Provincetown Planning Board, and on the Provincetown Performing Arts Foundation Board. He is co-owner of a brokerage serving the Outer Cape and Boston regions called Blue Door Realty. In his spare time, he is either at the beach, traveling, cycling through the Outer Cape, or in his clay studio.
Daniel Marandola, Director
Daniel grew up in a very small town in Iowa and had a passion for singing and acting. His passion and talents led him to Germany after college where he performed for years. Upon returning to the states, Daniel moved directly to NYC where he treated his art as a creative outlet while focusing professionally on a new passion, Event Production & Fundraising. Daniel found himself creating extremely successful major events, but they profited individuals and corporations.
Daniel soon learned that he found joy in his work when creating events benefiting the LGBTQAI+ community. During Covid, event jobs were shut down and Daniel began creating virtual events to support marginalized communities and the arts. In 2021 he relocated to Provincetown to align his passions and skillset with these non-profit initiatives.
Sylvaine Alfaro, Board Co-Chair
Sylvaine Alfaro came to Provincetown in 2019 with the Generations Project as a photographer, working on intergenerational storytelling event series.
She is currently co-producing an exhibition at the pilgrim monument entitled ‘Remnants: an excavation of Provincetown’ slated to open in Spring of 2022. Her background is in analogue photography and printmaking specializing in antique and alternative processes.
She got her BFA from Cal State LA and worked as a graphic artist in Paris for 5 years. She has worked as a production photographer and graphic designer on several award-winning feature length documentaries for the production company Megamot Media based in Brooklyn, NY.
Jaime de Sousa, Board Secretary
Jaime de Sousa like many came for a summer and decided it was not enough. For Jaime, visiting Provincetown and living here became two distinct realities. Attracted by the sense of creative and caring community, Jaime decided to return and strive to be part of this complex fabric. Jaime comes from a background of environmental, public health, and social justice background-and a fervent supporter of all things QUEER. Jaime believes art is the driver of all things and Queer artists are often front and center, although often not acknowledged. Jaime hopes that Provincetown can grow to support the full diversity of Queer community, centering the voices and thrivability of Black, Brown, Indigenous, POC, trans, people living with disabilities, and folx living in poverty-finding ways to create opportunities to flourish!
Chris Hartley, Board Treasurer
Founder of Provincetown Brewing Co.
Chris first came to Provincetown in 2012 and like so many others, felt immediately at home. After many trips to Provincetown over several years he decided to become a more integral part of the community.
After spending 15 years in New York in the construction and design industry working for Ralph Lauren and others, he decided to make the move to Provincetown to open Provincetown Brewing Co. The intention was not only to create a national brand but do so while supporting and fostering an inclusive culture and a safe space for all to connect with Provincetown. Chris sits on the Provincetown Zoning Board and is a member of the Provincetown Business Guild.
