Residency Program

Supporting the diverse community and with an eye on extending the year-round economy, the residency program shall utilize existing furnished, heated spaces that are vacant in winter months for our creative's occupancies. We raise money to provide a stipend to home owners and business owners that cover rent costs and other day-to-day expenses.

Application Process:

Our goal in 2022 is to create 20 residency opportunities for queer creatives over winter. Creatives are welcome to begin applying as of June 15th. The cut-off will be September 31st. Selected applicants will receive free housing and space to work in.

Who should apply?

We are asking for creatives of all walks of life and mediums of art to apply. We welcome anybody to apply but cannot guarantee we will have accommodations for every style. Some that we have discussed are as follows: Drag artists, painters, sculptors, DJs, musicians, and writers. This community was built on creative minds creating new spaces for every form of art and WE LOVE THAT. So, please apply, and if we cannot house your craft this year than hopefully we can arrange a space next year.

Who decides?

We have set a board in place to guarantee a fair selection process. This board is separate from our non-profit board as to avoid any conflict of interests. The board is made up of established local artists here in Provincetown. They have rich ties to its’ history and the people here. They understand our mission and the need for diversity and inclusion.

Where will they stay?

We are currently finalizing partnerships with local Inn’s and spaces to accommodate our creatives. They will be provided with a safe place to sleep, a bathroom, access to a kitchen, and a workspace.

What is expected of the creatives?

During the application process creatives will frame out what they are going to achieve during their residency. These goals will then be overseen by staff and used to access progress. They will be expected to have a weekly check-in to ensure they are on track to meet their goals. Residents will also be expected to attend periodic “family-dinners” to get to know other creatives in residency and our local creatives/mentors. It will also be required that every resident donate some time to community service during their stay. The residency will expect the artists give back to the Stowaway Society to support future creatives to come through a donation of art or of their time for an event. While in residence, we will integrate residents with the community and encourage all creatives to get to know the community and enjoy their stay to the fullest.
